Soil. Community. Legacy

it started with a question...

What if communities can build their own futures – with their own hands – with soil form their own lands?

Sawubona ZA discovered ISSB in Kenya, and brought it home to South Africa. Now, through EarthBond, we’re turning soil into jobs, homes, and hope. From Dinokeng, to Ophondweni to the VuliZulu Lodge, every block tells a story.

learning from the best

Architect Francis Kéré, winner of the Pritzker Prize (architecture’s highest honour), builds with earth because it works. His buildings in Burkina Faso prove that mud can be magnificent.

“Informed by tradition, our practice explores new modes of construction… to set our own precedents.” – Francis Kéré

We’re not copying Kéré. We’re following his example: using what we have to build what we dream.

a machine that builds more than blocks

The ISSB press came from Kenya. It arrived in Ophondweni as a tool.  It became something else: an engine for economic mobilization.

With this machine, community members can:

  • Produce their own building materials
  • Improve local schools and clinics
  • Learn skills that pay
  • Start businesses that last

Every block made is a block of dignity.
